The French Spectacular was a prestigious event held in the presence of Annie Nedellec,
the French Honorary Consul to the Isle of Man.
The programme was a selection of pieces by French composers including Debussy, Ravel
and Saint Saens. The number of well known and difficult pieces made it a challenging
programme for the orchestra who rose to the occasion. The Academy of Dance provided
fun and bright choreography to a number of pieces giving another dimension to the
show.
Both the Saint Saens Organ Symphony (soloist John Riley) and Ravel’s ‘Tzigane’ (soloist
William Pickering) were an over-whelming success. While the orchestra excelled themselves
in the difficult l’Apres-Midi d’un Faune by Debussy.
In the words of our Conductor, Maurice Powell “ This was possibly the best concert
we have ever given.”
