When approached by Katherine Crowe to put together a programme for this unique event
the Orchestra felt that the opportunity was one not to be missed. Having never before
played with a rock band a whole new set a challenges presented themselves, not the
least of which was how to logistically position orchestra, band, backing singers,
solo instrumentalists and Katherine on the Gaiety stage. The concert was formatted
in 3 parts firstly the orchestra played several popular classical pieces including
Palladio - Jenkins, Spartacus - Khachaturian, Air (On a G String) - Bach.
The second section of the concert had a beautiful haunting feel with Katherine singing some of her own music, along with some covers, accompanied by her band and Cellist 'Kelly Sweetman'. For the spectacular finale all members of the band and orchestra were on stage and showed how special a live orchestra can make modern popular music. The most dramatic of which was the cover of Untitled - Alanis Morisette.
Overall the Isle of Man Symphony Orchestra felt that the venture was one well worth undertaking and one that may be repeated in the future.
